Happy Rosh Hashanah!

Last night began the Jewish New Year celebration of Rosh Hashanah. I don't know about you people, but the idea that this is year number 5769 boggles my mind. And then makes me wonder about all those prophecies in the Bible. Are we going off of OUR calendar? Or theirs? Hopefully, some smartie-pants mathematician has figured it all out for us already which would explain my obliviousness.

On Rosh Hashanah, there is a symbolic blowing of the shofar, a trumpet made from a ram's horn, meant to 'wake up' a listener from his or her "slumber" and remind them of the coming judgment. Remember that the Jews are still waiting for the Messiah spoken of in the OT to come and still rely on the cleansing of sins every year by their high priest who USED to sacrifice a perfect lamb. Since the fall of the temple in Jerusalem, the act of the sacrifice happens either not at all, or in remote places. Of course, we know that Christ was our perfect lamb, our Passover lamb, our Savior, and our Messiah, just as much as He was salvation for the Jews. Perhaps we could take a minute to pray for the Jewish people and their redemption. What a sad culture to live in to be blind that your Messiah had come for you, His chosen people, and for the rest of the world beyond Israel, and yet in seeing, they did not see...in hearing, they did not hear.

Wanna see what a real lamb sacrifice was like? Go here.

And then remember that Jesus made the way for us.

Shortly after Rosh Hashanah, they will celebrate Yom Kippur, 'The Day of Atonement.' If only they knew their atonement was paid in full two thousand years ago.

Also it would be a good thing for us to remember in that we need to WAKE UP from our spiritual slumber in the US and, as you said, pray! Pray for our nation and for our loved ones who still don't have any sacrifice for their sins.
